With more kiwis on the go, it is easy to lose track of yourself and get into unhealthy habits. Here are some quick tips for maintaining a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
1. Eat well
Healthy eating habits can give you energy, boost your immune system and improve gut health. Having a varied, balanced diet, including fresh vegetables and fruit, is known for preventing heart disease. Lean protein, healthy fats and good hydration also play an important role in your overall health. Reduce the consumption of alcohol, foods high in sugar and salt.
2. Exercise regularly
Regular exercise will reduce your risk of heart disease and osteoporosis. As well as, reducing stress, boosting energy levels and improving sleep patterns. The key is to find a form of exercise that you enjoy.
3. Get quality sleep
It replenishes specialised chemicals in your brain that are responsible for your energy levels, attention, focus and motivation.
Aim for a regular routine with at least 7-8 hours of sleep. Avoid tablets/phones 30 minutes before bedtime. If you still have trouble sleeping, avoid large meals and caffeine within 2 hours of going to bed and consider taking a sleep supplement like magnesium to calm the nervous system.
4. Make time for you and your whānau and for those relationships that are close to you as well as for the hobbies that you enjoy.
