With Countdown’s Christmas Club, you can save throughout the year and get an extra Christmas bonus to spend in December and January. 

Top up your account as often as you choose throughout the year, and on 1 December we will add a 5% bonus to the amount you saved, just in time to redeem for your Christmas goodies!

Pick up a card from your nearest Countdown. Cards will be available from November 4th.

Register your card online. Once registered, we will send you an email with all the details you need to top up your account. 

Top up your account with the convenience of online banking. Set up automated payments or top up as you go, the choice is yours.

Redeem in-store at Countdown.  You can redeem at any point in the year, but your bonus amount can only be redeemed during December and January.

With Countdown Christmas Club, you can add money to your account through online banking (by setting up automatic payments, or making one off payments).


The Christmas Club period runs from 1 December to 30 November.

Every year on 1 December, Countdown will apply a 5% bonus to the amount topped up in the previous 12 month period. The bonus will be added directly into your Christmas Club account. Top ups can take up to 4 business days to be added to your Christmas Club account, top ups made before the cut off of 30 November but not yet added to your account, will be eligible for the bonus the following year. 


You can redeem your funds by purchasing goods  in-store at Countdown. You can redeem your account at any time throughout the year, but bonuses are only able to be redeemed during the months of December and January. Any bonus remaining on 1 February will be locked until the following December and January.


During the months of December and January the bonus amount will be redeemed first, followed by top ups in the order they were added to your account.

Once you complete and submit your registration form online, you will be sent an email verification link to address provided at registration. You have to complete this step before your confirmation email is sent.  If you have not received this email, please check the following;

  • Check your spam folder 
  • Wait up to 10 minutes

You can top up your Christmas Club account through online banking.  Simply log onto your bank account, in the payments section search for Countdown Christmas Club as the payee. Enter your account details as per the instructions;

  • Particulars: enter your first initial & last name e.g. JSMITH
  • Code: leave this field blank
  • Reference: enter your 8 to 9 digit Account Number provided in your welcome email or as displayed by logging into your account

Note: For some banks, you may need to set the payee up using desktop and save to your payees before being able to make payments through mobile app.    

Once the payee details are saved, you can set up automatic payments to reach a set goal at the end of the year, or choose to do one off payments throughout the year.

You can set up an automatic payment by selecting Countdown Christmas Club as the payee. In the event that you need an account number please use 01-1839-0329375-06. Then enter your account details as per the instructions; 

  • Particulars: enter your first name initial & last name e.g. JSMITH
  • Code: leave this field blank 
  • Reference: enter your 8 to 9 digit Account Number provided in your welcome email or as displayed by logging into your account
Note: Countdown assumes no responsibility for your payments made to an incorrect account number. 
This account number is to be used solely for the purposes of depositing funds to your Christmas Club account via Internet Banking. It is not for deposits made in a Bank Branch. Countdown assumes no responsibility for payments made in branch and these will not show up in your Christmas club account

You can find your 8 to 9 digit account number by clicking Sign in to my account and entering your card details.

It can take up to 4 business days for your top ups to be added to your Christmas Club account.  If it has been over 4 days, and it is still missing, please call us on 0800 40 40 40.

Call us immediately on 0800 40 40 40 to report your card lost or stolen. We will be able to place a hold on your account to prevent any future activity. Any funds used before reported will be your responsibility. Once your account is on hold, pick up a new card and call us back so we can assist with adding the new card to your account.

For security purposes, it is recommended to choose a personal PIN number, however this is optional for those that choose to keep the PIN as printed on the card. You can set a new PIN at the same time you register your card, or you can change your PIN at any point after your card is registered by logging into your account, select “Account” and then click “Change PIN”.

The bonus is applied on 1 December and is calculated based on the amount topped up and saved during the previous 12 month period of 1 December and 30 November. For example on 1 December this year, the 5% bonus will be applied to the tops ups made between 1 December last year and 30 November this year. Balances carried over from past years and funds already redeemed are not eligible for the bonus.

Redeem your Countdown Christmas Club card by purchasing goods in-store at Countdown. Its handy to check your balance before redeeming your funds, more than one form of payment can be used in a single transaction. Christmas Club funds are not exchangeable for cash.

It’s handy to know your balance before you go to redeem. Checking your balance is easy, just click Sign in to my account and enter your card details.

Bonus amounts applied to your account are only available to be redeemed during the months of December and January. On 1 February, any unused bonus will be locked and held in your account until the following December and January. 

No. Funds added to your Countdown Christmas Club account are redeemable in-store at Countdown only, and not exchangeable for cash.

Yes. Your account balance must remain below $5,000 (this includes top ups as well as any bonus amounts). The maximum amount of top ups you can add to your account in any given 12 month period is $9,999

No - your Christmas Club card and account will not expire, unless you contact us to cancel your account. 

For security purposes, after 3 attempts of signing in with the incorrect Card and PIN details, the system will temporarily lock you out for one hour. At which point, you will be able to sign in in again, check that you are  entering the correct 16 digit card number on the back of your card and PIN number associated with your account, either the PIN on the back of your card or new PIN you have assigned to your account.

Account to Account gifting is not available, however you can purchase Countdown Gift Cards with your Christmas Club card as an alternative.

Our Christmas Club system is set up to refund the duplicate transactions back to your bank account thinking that a mistake has been made. Your second top up will be refunded back to your bank account in 2-4 business days.
