Yes - from 9 October 2016 the Onecard programme has been refreshed. The new Onecard programme gives customers the opportunity to continue to save with exclusive Onecard Club Prices, earn Onecard points (as they do today) or they can choose to earn AA Smartfuel discounts at Countdown.
PLUS - because the new card is also an AA Smartfuel card, it means that when you spend a minimum of $40 on auto fuel at participating AASmartfuel partner sites, you automatically get a 6cpl discount on your fuel. No spend at Countdown is required to get that saving. Back to top
No - the two companies have not merged. This is a new partnership between the two companies. We believe that it was a good decision for our customers to join together in this partnership offering our customers the best of both worlds making two every day purchases that much better every day. The Onecard programme changed from 6.00 pm on Sunday 9 October 2016. Back to top
Earn one point for every whole $10 you spend on qualifying goods and services when you use your Onecard in store or online. So, if you spend $50 you earn five (5) Onecard points, spend $150 to earn 15 Onecard points and so on.
Every 200 points you earn gives you a $15 Onecard Rewards Voucher. So if you earn 400 points you'll receive a voucher to the value of $30. The more points you earn, the more Onecard Rewards Vouchers you’ll receive. Back to top
Start using the new card (issued after 9 October 2016) at Countdown to earn AA Smartfuel discounts. You’ll need to use the new card (as per the picture to the right) to do that. Back to top
Absolutely yes. When you add a new Onecard to your existing Onecard account any Onecard points that you have earned will automatically be transferred over to the new Onecard. Back to top
cpl - cents per litre (discount)
Spend a total of $100 in Countdown over a one week period (Monday to Sunday) on qualifying goods and services and you will earn an AA Smartfuel discount of $0.03 cpl; spend a total of $200 in Countdown over a one week period and you will earn a discount of $0.06 cpl. Remember that the $100 (or $200) does not have to be spent in a single transaction - it is over the period of a week.
A $0.06 cpl discount is the maximum that you can earn in a one week period at Countdown. You can earn additional fuel discounts at the rest of the AA Smartfuel partner village. Back to top
The beauty of AA Smartfuel discounts is that you can accumulate your fuel savings.
For example, earn $0.03 cpl at Countdown, then head to a participating AA Smartfuel partner site and spend a minimum of $40 on auto fuel and that $0.03 cpl automatically becomes $0.09 cpl. How? $0.03 cpl from Countdown, plus $0.06 cpl from BP or Caltex (when you spend a minimum of $40 on auto fuel) becomes $0.09 cpl - multiplied by 50 litres is a saving of $4.50. Back to top

As an AA Member, your AA Membership card is automatically an AA Smartfuel card and now it is also a Onecard. That means that your new AA Membership card (issued after 3 October 2016) does three things. One piece of plastic that does all three things - how easy is that.
- It’s your AA Membership card - the one you need to call AA Roadservice
- It’s an AA Smartfuel card - which you use at participating AA Smartfuel partner sites to get fuel discounts
- Now it’s also a Onecard - which you can use it at Countdown to get Club Prices and also earn Onecard points toward Onecard Rewards Vouchers or add to your fuel savings with AA Smartfuel.
And, as an AA Member there is no need for you to register this new card. When you start to use this new card at Countdown everything will be taken care of. However, if you decide you don't want to use your new AA Membership card at Countdown then nothing will happen - you can simply continue to use this new card as your AA Membership card and your AA Smartfuel discount card. You will need to replace your old AA Smartfuel card with one of the new cards by picking one up from a Countdown store or from BP and Caltex and adding it to your existing Onecard account. One card that replaces two (or three) pieces of plastic has to be good news!
You only need to register the new card once, ie with Countdown or with AA Smartfuel. You dont need to do it with both. Back to top
You will still be able to redeem any valid fuel vouchers that you have. Simply follow the instructions on the voucher. The voucher will tell you which fuel providers you can go to. Back to top

Onecard points are valid for a period of six months from the date they are earned. If you don’t have enough Onecard points for a Onecard Rewards Voucher, the points will carry over to the next Rewards period as long as they have not expired. Back to top
The process of working out who has enough Onecard points to receive a Onecard Rewards Voucher and the actual voucher arriving in your letterbox takes us approximately one month. We calculate balances over 200 Onecard points on the first Sunday of February, May, August and November. Onecard Rewards Vouchers are usually posted approximately two weeks later. Back to top
If you receive a Onecard Rewards Voucher, included in the letter is a short points summary. This will tell you how many points (if any) have been expired from your account. Alternatively you can contact our Customer Care team on 0800 40 40 40 and they can check your account to see if any points have been expired. Back to top
Have you moved recently and perhaps forgotten to update us with your new address details? We will not send vouchers to an address that we have had mail returned from. Please make sure to keep all of your contact details up to date. Back to top
Like most loyalty programmes, Onecard has an expiry date on points in order to manage the cost of the programme. Back to top

We've improved our Onecard Rewards Vouchers and since the launch of the new Onecard - Onecard Rewards Vouchers issued from November 2016 will be valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

If you have recently received Onecard Rewards Vouchers your points balance will have been adjusted to reflect the points that have been converted into your Onecard Rewards Voucher(s). If you still believe you should have more points, then we will need to see your till receipts to compare them against our records. If you can make copies and post them to us, we can then review them and, if necessary, update our records and make sure you receive the points you are entitled to.
Our postal address is:

Absolutely! Remember that the Onecard programme changed in October 2016. Countdown now lets you save your way everyday on food or fuel. That means you need to tell us whether you want to earn Onecard points or to earn AA Smartfuel discounts at Countdown.
Once you’ve registered, then you’re all set and your online shopping (on qualifying goods and services) will either earn Onecard points or AA Smartfuel discounts. Back to top
It depends on what reward you have chosen. We’re looking at improving this for our customers and we’ll keep you updated as things change. However, for the moment:
If you have chosen to earn Onecard Rewards Vouchers – then no you will earn Onecard points as you do today.
If you’re registered to earn AA Smartfuel discounts at Countdown – then your online shopping spend will be used toward AA Smartfuel discounts which will automatically be added to your card. This includes the big national fuel offers. Back to top
There is no change for you. You will continue to use your existing Charge Card in Countdown which gives you the charge card privileges and Onecard Club Prices. This all stays the same. Back to top
Yes and a boosted yes! It all depends on your circumstances and the reward you have chosen. Let me explain more:
Not a Onecard customer?
You will receive a paper fuel discount voucher to be redeemed at AA Smartfuel fuel partners. This cannot be added to any other discounts.
You’ve chosen Onecard Rewards Vouchers as your reward at Countdown
You’ll earn Onecard points from your $200 shop and you will also receive a 40c paper fuel discount voucher to be redeemed at the AA Smartfuel fuel partners. This cannot be added to any other discounts.
You’ve chosen AA Smartfuel discounts as your reward at Countdown
You won’t receive a paper discount voucher. The 40c AA Smartfuel discount will automatically be added to any other AA Smartfuel discounts on your card. For example, if you already have an accumulated balance of 10cpl and take advantage of the 40 cpl offer from Countdown by spending $200, you will how have $0.10cpl, plus $0.40 cpl, plus $0.06 cpl from your spend at Countdown (if you had not already reached the maximum spend for that week) and then go to BP or Caltex to redeem your fuel savings, you will save $31 on a 50 litre fill of fuel (10c + 40c + 6c + 6c x 50 litres = $31 saving).
You could shop on Saturday and spend $200 and get the 40cpl AA Smartfuel discount (plus $0.06 the maximum discount per week for spending the $200); shop on Sunday and spend $200 and get another 40cpl AA Smartfuel discount and then add that to any other AA Smartfuel discounts you have already accumulated. Let’s say you have a $0.10 cpl balance already – then add 46c + 40c +and then go to BP or Caltex and as you redeem earn another 6cp and you will save $51 on a 50 litre fill of fuel. Back to top
Yes - we'd encourage you to select to earn AA Smartfuel discounts in Countdown as that will give you the opportunity for the most savings while you drive around our beautiful country. Onecard Rewards Vouchers wont really work for you as you need to be a New Zealand resident and have a New Zealand address to receive your Rewards Vouchers. Onecard Club Prices and AA Smartfuel discounts when shopping at Countdown - how good is that.
Remember, you'll need to register the card to be able to redeem those fuels discounts. Register your new card with AA Smartfuel directly by calling 0800 842 877. Back to top
As your AA Smartfuel discount is cleared to zero, after your redeem, it makes sense that the most you would accumulate is the price of fuel in your area, ie if diesel is $1.10 per litre then the maximum you would accumulate is $1.10. Back to top
No - your AA Smartfuel balance is cleared to zero after you redeem, meaning any unused fuel discounts will be lost. So keep any eye on those balances to maximise your fuel savings. Back to top
Creating a user name and password allows you to quickly and easily get access to your Onecard account and your personalised myCountdown content.
Create a strong password and stay safe; a good password should contain letters, at least one number (but no spaces)!
Remember - it can't be the same as your user name, your email address or your Onecard number.
Simply use your new combined Onecard/AA Smartfuel card at a participating AA Smartfuel partner site, spend a minimum of $40 on fuel, and you'll automatically get a 6 cent per litre discount - no spend at Countdown required. Make sure you sign up to get AA Smartfuel emails as from time to time AA Smartfuel partners do extra discount days. Back to top
You can fill up as often as you like to access these instant fuel savings as long as you spend $40 or more on fuel at the time. Back to top
Yes - you can redeem your discounts on a maximum of 50 litres of fuel. That means that if you put in 45 litres of fuel all of that would be the discount, but, if you put in 70 litres of fuel - the first 50 litres would get the benefit of your AA Smartfuel discount and the other 20 litres would not be discounted. Back to top
Please be assured that none of your personal information has been shared between the two organisations. Only when you first use the new AA Membership card at Countdown will the AA share your personal information with us to enable us to identify you as the same person in both programmes. The benefit of doing this is one piece of plastic and the ability to consolidate your fuel discounts should you choose to earn additional fuel discounts when shopping at Countdown. Back to top
If you are an AA Member, you should have received a new AA Membership card in the mail from the Automobile Association. This is also a Onecard and an AA Smartfuel card all in one. Once you use this card in Countdown, your registration is complete. Only upon first use will your details, including Onecard points balances, linked accounts etc be transferred. Swipe your new AA Membership card in-store at Countdown to activate.
If you have not received your new AA Membership card please contact 0800 500 444 Back to top
When you register your new Onecard, we ask you for your old Onecard number. This is so we can transfer all your existing details and settings such as linked cards. If you are an AA Member this happens after you have first swiped your AA Membership card in-store at Countdown. Back to top
When registering a new Onecard for the very first time you use your old Onecard number. This will be a number most likely starting with a 50 or 70 prefix. It is any old Onecard, ie even an old Foodtown card number will work. This ensures that all of your details, including any points balances transfer across without a hitch. Back to top
Yes any discount balances that you have, will transfer across when you register. You can do this on the AA Smartfuel app or at AASmartfuel.co.nz. Back to top
