Personal shoppers poised for Click & Collect to go nationwide: Countdown anticipates a boost in online grocery shopping following the national roll-out of its Click & Collect service today.
23 May 2016: Countdown anticipates a boost in online grocery shopping following the national roll-out of its Click & Collect service today.
From 23 May, New Zealanders from Cape Reinga to the Bluff can buy groceries online with Countdown, have them picked and packed by a personal shopper, and then collect their shopping in-store at a time that suits them for just $5.
More than 80,000 Kiwis, approximately the entire population of Palmerston North, are regular online shoppers with Countdown.
Countdown’s National Online Manager Tony Petrie says this number is expected to grow significantly, thanks to the introduction of new innovations and services in the online shopping space, such as improved online delivery times and taking Click & Collect nationwide.
“We get great feedback from our online customers who love the ease and convenience of having their shopping done for them. Click & Collect is yet another way to make supermarket shopping work for you,” says Mr Petrie.
“Customers get the benefit of our friendly team of trained personal shoppers, armed with instructions you’ve given them about just how you like your bananas or what colour toothbrushes you want for the family. Then you simply collect your order on the way home from work or school drop off, we have it ready to go when you arrive.
“It saves time, can help with budgeting and means no more stressful shopping trips with the kids in tow.”
Countdown is the only supermarket retailer to offer Click & Collect at every one of its stores including those in our largest cities to the smallest rural towns.
As part of the national roll-out, Countdown is also introducing large Click & Collect lockers in some stores. The lockers are a combination of ambient and refrigerated storage spaces and will keep orders with perishable items safe and fresh until they are collected by shoppers.
Countdown has offered online shopping since 1996 when the service was launched from one store in South Auckland. Today Countdown fulfils more than 20,000 orders each week, with 80,000 regular online shoppers. Countdown delivers to 99 per cent of the country, with more than 100 trucks on the road doing multiple deliveries every day. Online sales, including Click & Collect, are set to match the equivalent of several bricks and mortar Countdown stores by mid-2016.
Mr Petrie says the move to take Click & Collect national is about making life easier for consumers.
“Countdown has a strong heritage in online shopping spanning 20 years, and we’re continuing to innovate and strengthen our offering. We want to make things easy for our customers and having Click & Collect available in every single one of our stores is one of the ways we can do this.”
Countdown is offering customers their first Click & Collect free until 30 June 2016, visit http://shop.countdown.co.nz/shop/content/click-and-collect.
