Goodwill Recipients 2016

Sharing the joy and the gift of giving.

Thanks to your nominations, Christmas came early for some special Kiwi's. Read some of the heart-warming stories here.
In early December we asked you to help us all of our stores find some deserving Kiwi families to each receive a $500 gift card. The nominations came flooding in with stories that gave us tears, smiles, sighs and the urge to just hug someone. For the teams in-store, narrowing the nominations down to one lucky winner for each Countdown was a mammoth task but in the true spirit of Christmas, we they did it.
Here are four of our favourite stories.
Story 1

This 6-year- old (with help from his Nan) nominated his mum and dad. He wanted them to have something nice for Christmas because he has a heart condition and his mum and dad sometimes struggle with travel back and forth to hospitals, food, and making sure he and his little sisters have a comfortable, loving home to live in. We were happy to give him his wish and his mum, dad and sisters were delighted.

Story 2

Here’s someone who is always helping others. With four children of her own, she volunteers at the Salvation Army twice a week, helps at the SPCA and at the school whenever she can. Her friend nominated her because she never asks for help and truly deserved a wonderful Christmas surprise.

Story 3

This 12 year-old girl thought her mum and dad deserved to win because they work so hard and so many hours to look after her and her siblings. Her parents never ask for help but sometimes struggle to make ends meet. We were so pleased to see this family win and the excitement on the childrens’ faces.

Story 4

A good friend nominated this couple who have opened their home to many people over the years – feeding and clothing those in need and helping them get back on their feet. This year their daughter was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition which meant the wife had to move to Auckland to care for her. Thankfully, she’s gradually improving. The friend nominated them because they are always unassuming and never ask for anything, they just get in there and get the job done.
