An update on Alert Level 2

Wednesday, 13 May

We wanted to let you know what Level 2 will look like in our supermarkets, and about the safety and hygiene measures we’ll continue to have in place to keep you and our team safe.

Kia ora,

Thanks to the efforts of all New Zealanders working together, the country will move to Alert Level 2 on Thursday. I know this will be very welcome news for many of us who are looking forward to seeing friends and family again.

We wanted to let you know what Level 2 will look like in our supermarkets, and about the safety and hygiene measures we’ll continue to have in place to keep you and our team safe.

Physical distancing and hygiene measures stay in place

  • We’ll keep monitoring the number of people in our stores as we have through Alert Levels 3 and 4, and we have extra cleaning and sanitising continuing throughout the day, on top of our usual cleaning.

  • Where you can, please keep sending one person per family to shop. We know this won’t always be possible with people returning to work and school, so if you need to bring your children with you please make sure you physically distance your bubble from other shoppers.

  • Please continue to keep yourself and others safe by keeping a two metre gap between others when shopping in our stores.

Opening hours will go back to normal for all customers

  • From Thursday, all our stores will go back to their normal opening time. Check the opening hours for your local store here.

  • These changes mean we’ll also be stopping the priority shopping hour for emergency services and medical personnel. It was our pleasure to offer this when it was needed most, and we’ll review whether it’s needed again if there are any changes to alert levels in the future.

Plenty of online shopping delivery and Pick up slots

  • We’ve continued to make more online delivery and Pick up slots available for our customers - including those people using our Priority Assistance service, which we will continue in Level 2.

  • In many areas, same-day delivery or Pick up windows are available for everyone once more. Thanks for your patience as we’ve worked to meet the massive demand during lockdown.

Limits on all products are now lifted, with lots of specials and Great Prices

  • With pressure on our supply chain easing, we’ve lifted all product limits.

  • We are working hard to bring you even more value - we have more than 6,400 specials this week, including our Hot Hot specials, as well as 3,500 products on Great Price which we are extending to include fruit and veges as well as other essentials.

A change to our mailer - we’ve gone digital

  • For more information on promotions and specials, check out our mailer which is now available online.

  • We’ve had a really positive response from our customers about the new online mailer, so for the time being, we’re sticking with it to see how you like it. Help us save around 66 tonnes of paper a week by looking for our mailer online.

Popular services return to stores

  • You would have noticed our lovely fresh New Zealand flowers back in stores last week. Our in-store Lotto counters will now also be open.

CBD stores and others back open for customers

  • People returning to work in the Auckland and Wellington CBDs will be pleased to see our Albert Street Metro and Cable Car Lane stores back open this week. Whether you’re popping in to grab something for lunch or a couple of things for dinner, we look forward to seeing you.

  • Countdown Northwest in Auckland will also re-open to all customers on Thursday, and Countdown Moorhouse in Christchurch will re-open on Monday 18 May after both were temporarily converted to online-only to help meet the high demand we saw in the early stages of Alert Level 4. Our team in Countdown Rototuna are also very excited to be opening our new store for the community to shop in on Tuesday 26 May.

Thank you again for your continued support over the past couple of months - it’s been a privilege to serve you, and your kind feedback has meant a lot to our team of 20,000 Kiwis.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Stay safe,

Natalie Davis
