For many young New Zealanders, making decisions about what they would like to do when they finish school can be daunting.
To help, the Countdown SEEDS (Students Entering Employment Developing Skills) programme was introduced in early 2018. Delivered in partnership with ServiceIQ, SEEDS brings secondary school students into Countdown stores for real work experience, to help them to gain practical skills and knowledge. This empowers students to make more informed decisions about their careers, and also gives our store teams the chance to get to know young people in their local area and identify future talent.
SEEDS is a gateway programme that gives students a chance to get valuable work experience and helps them make the transition from school into a career. Through partnering with ServiceIQ, students will gain credits that can be used towards the nationally recognised qualification, New Zealand Certificate in Retail (Level 2). This could also lead to a career in retail or a pathway into a butchery or bakery apprenticeship. They’ll be supported all the way and learn important skills in line with industry standards including customer service; personal presentation; food safety; product knowledge and teamwork.
