SEEDS (Students Entering Employment Developing Skills) Gateway Programme

For us, retailing is all about people. We are proud of our people and are committed to helping every team member realise their potential. As one of New Zealand's largest private sector employers in New Zealand, we are also committed to giving back to the communities in which we operate. We've all been given a hand throughout our careers and our team are excited to be able to give a hand to local school students to introduce them to the opportunities and pathways that exist at Countdown while learning valuable industry skills and knowledge in a fully supportive environment.

SEEDS is a gateway programme that gives students a chance to get valuable work experience and helps them make the transition from school into a career. Through partnering with ServiceIQ, students will gain credits that can be used towards the nationally recognised qualification, New Zealand Certificate in Retail (Level 2). This could also lead to a career in retail or a pathway into a butchery or bakery apprenticeship. They’ll be supported all the way and learn important skills in line with industry standards including: customer service; personal presentation; food safety; product knowledge and teamwork.
