Here at Countdown, we thrive to watch our team grow

If our team grow, we will grow, and we will be well on our way to becoming New Zealand favourite food store.

Our commitment is to provide learning opportunities for all of our team members to achieve their goals and progress their careers. We believe development is most effective when it is a mix of traditional classroom training, blended with online learning, everyday experiences, ongoing coaching, and conversations.

One of our aims is to support and develop our teams into their desired leadership positions and we do this through our various leadership development levels:

  • Aspiring Leaders

  • Emerging Leaders

  • Developing Leaders

We have a number of development programmes at each level to assist our managers on their learning journey.

In-store learning & development opportunities

We are making Kiwis’ lives a little better every day by giving our team the opportunity to greatly enhance their career prospects by achieving a nationally recognised qualification on the job! No matter what role they play, there is an opportunity for everyone. The team at Countdown can learn while they earn with Retail and Business business qualifications offered on the job. We have partnered with Service IQ - Industry Training Organisation (ITO) for a large part of New Zealand's vibrant and growing service industry.

We offer the New Zealand Certificate in Retail - Level 2 to all store team. Following this, you can sign up for a New Zealand Certificate In Retail Level 3 and New Zealand Certificate In Retail Level 4 as you progress in your career at Countdown.

It doesn't end here! After completing the qualifications offered in Retail, you can then start to build on your leadership aspirations by completing an NZ Certificate in Business Level 3 - Introduction to Team Leadership and/or NZ Certificate in Business Level 4 - First Line Management.
