Countdown Rangiora East to open in Canterbury
Countdown will unveil its sixteenth* store in Canterbury with the opening of Countdown Rangiora East cementing the company’s commitment to the region.
Located at 40-52 Ivory St, Rangiora, the 3,800sqm store will be officially opened on Wednesday 25 January by Waimakariri District Mayor David Ayers. This store will complement the existing Countdown Rangiora, situated at the corner of Queen and Victoria streets, meaning the Rangiora community will have access to two stores to service their shopping needs.
Countdown Rangiora East will employ 140 staff and features approximately 25,000 product lines set out in a new format, customer-friendly shopping environment.
The new store includes expansive produce, deli, meat and seafood departments, as well as a full-service bakery producing fresh baked goods daily. This is complemented by a large range of grocery lines at competitive prices, including the popular Select, Signature Range and Home Brand ranges, as well as Countdown’s new Macro Wholefoods Market brand.
Store Manager Regan Austin said Countdown Rangiora East will provide customers with a fantastic shopping experience. “We’ve been working extremely hard to get ready for the grand opening, and the store is looking great,” Mr Austin said.
“Countdown Rangiora East features many of the fantastic design hallmarks of the New Generation Countdown stores, including wider aisles, a pharmacy-inspired health and beauty section, clear pricing signage and innovative technology. We think the locals will be really impressed with our new store,” he said.
The store will have a Lotto outlet onsite, and, as with all new Countdown stores, Countdown Rangiora East will also celebrate Te Reo, with supermarket departments depicting both English and Māori translations. The store will have 12 checkouts, including four express checkouts and five self service checkouts, which allow customers to scan and pay for their
The store also features a range of environmental initiatives including a CO2 refrigeration plant system that will give significant energy efficiency benefits. Night blinds on refrigerated cabinets, sliding covers on freezers, heat reclaim off the refrigeration coils, energy efficient lighting and the use of natural light in roof panels will also help minimize the store’s carbon footprint.
General Manager of Operations at Countdown, Brett Ashley said the $20m investment in Countdown Rangiora East represents an ongoing commitment to the Canterbury region, which includes the December 2011 opening of Countdown Rolleston and the expansion of the Christchurch Distribution Centre.
“Our business is committed to investing in Christchurch at a time when the region needs it the most,” Mr Ashley said.
Countdown Rangiora East is celebrating the new store opening with over 6,500 specials across all of the store’s departments. The store will be open Monday through to Sunday from 7:00am to 10:00pm.
*Excludes Countdown Ferrymead which is being rebuilt.
