New Zealand Fire Service
The Smart ShopperCountdown reminds you to check your smoke alarm batteries when you change your clocks for daylight savings. |
![]() |
Did you know that in 80% of house fires attended by the New Zealand Fire Service, smoke alarms were either not installed or not working? Since most deaths in house fires are caused by smoke, not flames, it's clear that Kiwis are exposed to some terrible risks in their own homes.
That's why Countdown, Woolworths and Foodtown supermarkets have teamed up with the New Zealand Fire service to provide smoke alarms for at-risk households.
Inside selected Countdown, Woolworths and Foodtown supermarkets you'll find special displays featuring smoke alarms and 9-volt batteries. These displays are set up at the beginning and end of Daylight Saving, to jog people's memories and ensure they replace the batteries in their smoke alarms.
To help support this initiative, Panasonic Batteries will donate 20 cents from every specially marked pack of 9-volt batteries sold during this campaign.
We're proud to support this great campaign, and we hope you will get behind it too!
