The Salvation Army
Everyone knows what good work The Sallies do in the community. They provide essential services to Kiwis in need, and they've been doing it for decades.
Our supermarkets and customers are proud to lend a hand. Together, we support the Sallies through initiatives such as collection boxes, food bank donations and toy drives.
For instance, take a closer look at the checkout next time you're in a Foodtown or Woolworths supermarket. Our supermarkets nationwide are fitted with coin collection boxes to raise money for The Salvation Army. Drop your spare change in the box, and you can be sure it will be put to good use!
In 2008 the Sallies launched their first Christmas CD - "It's a Wrap". This $5 CD was sold through all Countdown, Woolworths and Foodtown supermarkets to raise money and provide some Christmas cheer. It was a huge hit, selling nearly 38,000 copies and raising over $167,000 for The Salvation Army's 2008 Christmas Appeal.
