Alzheimers New Zealand

There are more than 42,000 people with dementia in New Zealand, of which 70% are cared for at home. As New Zealand’s population grows older, it's inevitable that more people will need help to deal with the devastating effects of dementia. Fortunately, Alzheimers New Zealand is here to help with the strain and provide practical support to people living with the condition, as well as their carers and family.
For nearly a decade, Countdown has supported Alzheimers New Zealand and this year we’re asking our customers to help us care for the carers. Customers are invited to donate at our checkouts between 25 June and 22 July. Donations can be made by cash, Eftpos or credit card, and money raised will contribute to local Alzheimers support services.

Countdown also supports Alzheimers in other ways. In 2012 New Zealand’s largest charity golf day, sponsored by Countdown, netted $153,000 for Alzheimers Auckland. This year 300 golfers gathered at the Titirangi Golf Course on 17 February to raise funds for this worthy cause.
The charity golf day is close to reaching a cumulative total of $1 million for Alzheimers Auckland since its inception.
